Sunday Stamping With Chelsea Comer: Bluebird

One of the many things I love about retail conventions is the opportunity to see our customers...both new ones and those dear ladies (and gentlemen) who return year after year.

Chelsea Comer and I first met at the Rockford SSAT show, I believe, back in 2008 or 2009. We've also had a chance to visit in Madison many times, and I always look forward to seeing her!

When Chase (her son, now 12 years old) was just 4, Chelsea started scrapbooking and stamping. "After our first trip to Disneyland, I made that album and got hooked and it just expanded from there."

After a hard day at work as the Director of Project Management for a pharmaceutical contract packager, Chelsea's favorite way to de-stress is to stamp and craft at night. Recently, she did this using 11162MC Birdhouse & Bluebird Clear Set (drawn by artist Nancy Baier):

Her bluebird card "sings" with sweet simplicity:

It's a wonderful example of paper piecing! She utilized solid colors rather than designer papers, which are more commonly seen with this technique, for a unique twist.

Chelsea stamped the bird image a few times, first on the white oval base, then on robin's egg blue and burnt ochre cardstock. If you look carefully, you may be able to spot the "hidden" black foam tape:

She built the foam tape in layers, with two pieces behind the top of the bird and one piece beneath the lower part of its body, so that its dimension is angled. Very cool!

Here's a closeup view of the paper pieced branch, also on foam tape, along with the bird feet and tail feathers...which are pieced, as well, but adhered with flat adhesive (so that the tail ended up behind the branch):

A banner sentiment and a bit of baker's twine completed Chelsea's card nicely:

Would you like the chance to win your own 11162MC Birdhouse & Bluebird Clear Set? Please leave a comment at the end of this post helping me welcome Chelsea Comer as our Inky Guest Designer for April, and you'll be entered in a BLOG CANDY giveaway.

On Thursday, April 11th, I'll randomly choose the winner for the same clear set that Chelsea used above and post that person's name...so please check back later this week to see if you've won!
