"Try It Different" Tuesday: Owl in Tree

If you like this week's card on the main Inky website, you're really going to enjoy today's post! Our talented artist Nancy Baier created a slew of wonderful cards using her 11197MC Forest & Pines Clear Set:

She featured the Owl in Tree image (2267H in wood mounted), which happens to be one of my personal favorites from our new Handcarved Autumn collection (part of the Nature's Moments series).

This CAS (clean and simple) design would be easily to replicate quickly, and I like the touches of silver embossing powder along the edge and silver cord around the middle:

The owl image in this card was also colored with alcohol markers...but, wow, what a change! I don't often remember to use "alternative" colors on my own stamped images. However, I want to put this on my short list, because I love the results:

Compared to alcohol markers, the pan pastels lend a much softer appearance:

This image looks great when heat embossed with copper powder, too. Now our little guy is sporting water colored feathers, and did you noticed the clever punched-circle sun:

Want to really shake things up? Start with the same embossed image, but stamp on kraft cardstock and color with a white gel pen:

Isn't that dramatic! You can't tell from the above photo, but the text in the patterned paper is also printed in metallic copper, which pulls everything together so nicely.

In our last card, the embossing powder was used only on the sentiment. The cut-out frame and white gel pen accents add beautiful touches to this pretty project:

Which card do you like best, Inky friends? We'd love to hear your thoughts!
