Friday Funnies: Remember The Commas!

Tomorrow, Steve and I are driving to Chicago, where our friend Joe has been working while on an extended business trip. We're having dinner at Gibsons, which is my all-time favorite steakhouse, and I'm super excited about that!

While I was browsing around online, I happened to run across this steak-related cartoon:

Actually, it has more to do with comma humor...and that, of course, is right up my alley (being a former English teacher and all, but not that you can tell from my writing!).

As I'm sure you know, the correct use of commas is very important. Conversely, the results of their misuse can be dire:

And not just for Grandpa, but his progeny, as well:

In fact, the dangers can spread to every member of the family:

Yes, indeed, proper comma placement (especially when there is nothing at all) can be critical:

Or maybe not:

For you advanced comma users, check out this argument for sticking with the Oxford style of comma usage:

Hope you enjoyed these Inky friends. Um, I mean: hope you enjoyed these, Inky friends! ;-)

For her prize, Diana has won  11223MC Pet Pairings Clear Set (drawn by artist Nancy Baier):

Here's an example of a cool watercolor-resist card that Nancy made using this stamp set:

"Try It Different" Tuesday: Water's Edge Clear Set

As you know, there are so many wonderful things about stamping. One of them is being able to transport yourself to another place, no matter where you happen to be at the moment!

Today it's -15 degrees in Minnesota, so I'm escaping to the seaside as I show you some beautiful cards made by Inky artist Nancy Baier. Let's start with this dockside view, as we dabble our toes in the lapping waters:

How many changes do you see in this second version? (I counted seven differences. Can you find more?):

The cool shades of blue and purple add a tranquil, soothing feeling to these cards. But if you want a livelier appearance, you can switch to a contrasting yellow and blue palette with red thrown in for pops of color:

All three of these cards were made using 4646J Seagull Scene and 3442F Deep Joys in wood mounted, which are also included as part of 11225MC Water's Edge Clear Set:

It's one of six brand new Scissor-Cut Scenes stamp sets. This striking collection features bold designs inspired by the Swiss-German folk art tradition of Scherenschnitte, brought to life in rubber and polymer for expanded paper crafting options.

We'll be presenting more of them in upcoming posts, but for now I wanted to include two more cards made with the other image in this stamp set. As you can see from the above projects, these images can be colored with your favorite media, such as colored pencils or alcohol markers.

However, the silhouette style also plays well with just an ink pad, as you can see in this easy-to make, tone-on-tone card:

You can also experiment with various background techniques, and stamp the image in black on top (with a few spots accented using a white gel pen):

Would you like to a chance to win a stamp set from this collection, Inky friends? If so, please check out the entire Scissor-Cut Scenes collection on this page, and let me know which ones are your favorites. By leaving your comment, you'll be entered in a BLOG CANDY giveaway.

On Thursday, January 30th, I'll randomly choose the winner and post the lucky person's name here on the blog, so please check back to see if you've won!

Friday Funnies: More Animal Humor

On the heels of last Friday's "animal noises" post (and in celebration of our new stamp collections shown earlier this week, which feature a variety of furry and feathered friends), we've got a bunch of giggle-worthy critter photos to share with you:

Hope you enjoyed these! Which one(s) made you chuckle the most? (Mine is the dog and unstuffed toy.)

New HoneyPOP Sets With Cute Critter Characters

If you've been a fan of stamps from Inky artist Tammy DeYoung, you'll love the new HoneyPOP sets she created for this release! You may already have noticed the sweet lovebirds card on our main Inky website, which was made using the aptly-named 11219LC Lovebirds HoneyPOP Clear Set:

I'm not sure which I like better, the outside or this great inside with the pop-out honeycomb heart:

One thing I can tell you is this latest HoneyPOP collection ranks as one of my all-time favorites. I just melted when I saw this meow-valous card made with 11215MC Fishing Tiger HoneyPOP Clear Set:

I think the inside is absolutely fin-tastic:

Okay, I'll stop with the puns for now. ;-) Instead, let's concentrate on the good stuff...like this charming card created using 11216MC Kite Buddies HoneyPOP Clear Set:

 Check out the cheery inside:

Of course, as you know, you're not required to use honeycomb paper on the inside (although it sure is fun!). All of these stamp sets work perfectly for standard cards, too. Just make the card fronts, and you're done.

Want even more inspiration for these sets? Michelle Pearson, who designed all of the wonderful cards shown above, also made a second version of each in standard card style:

Totally adorable, don't you think? There are three additional new sets, which are just as cute as these. You can find them all by visiting the What's New page on our main site and either downloading a PDF file of the catalog or clicking the "Go" tab to browse all the Spring '14 stamps.

Which ones will YOU be adding to your shopping list, Inky friends?

"Try It Different" Tuesday + Love & Friendship Collection = Lots of Awesome Cards

Are you in the mood for love, Inky friends? One of our new collections from the Spring '14 flyer is the Love & Friendship theme.

Created by Inky artist and designer Trudy Sjolander, these stamps are perfect for Valentine's Day...or any day that you might want to express warm and fuzzy feelings for a family member or friend.

You may have noticed this week's card on the main Inky site, showing the whimsical little monkey from 11228MC Love Monkey Clear Set:

Here's a different version, with the colors reversed and a sweet treat in the monkey's hand:

This stamp grouping is filled with other fun critters, too! One of the characters from 11231MC Wiggle & Purr Clear Set is an endearing puppy:
I'll bet you can guess the other half, which will be coming up in another post later on. :-)

Another "beary" cute image is from 11230MC Teddy Hugs Clear Set:

If you're a foodie like me, you'll appreciate 11226MC Better Together Clear Set (one of the stamps is posted in the lower left of our main website), as well as 11229MC Sentimental Fruit Clear Set:

Have you noticed all the pretty printed papers that Trudy used on her cards? You can get them, too! She made six designs that coordinate beautifully with the stamps in this collection:

A few weeks ago, we shipped these stamps (along with a sample board full of cards featuring them) to stores that are subscribed to our Inky Monthly Sample Board Program. Click here for a list of stores who received the January shipment.

We encourage you to call ahead to verify they have these stamps in stock, and then please visit them to make your purchase. However, if you're unable to find a local retailer carrying these stamps, you may also order them online from us.

By the way, do you know a local stamp or scrapbook store that might be interested in our board program? Please ask them to email me for details. If they sign up for it and provide your name as a referral at that time, I'll send you a thank-you gift!

Best Laid Plans & Quick CHA Peek

As you know, sometimes things just don't work out quite the way you've planned. Originally, Steve and I were supposed to get back last Sunday from our vacation. I was going to be home for two days before heading out to CHA on Wednesday.

One of the items on my short list was to write a whole series of CHA "sneak peek" blog posts to share with you, and I would have had plenty of time to do that...except our flight was canceled due to storms in the Northeast, and we couldn't get rebooked to return home until Tuesday night.

So my best laid plans didn't pan out, and that is why today's post has been changed into an abbreviated preview of our new collections. I'm really excited to show everything to you in much greater detail in the upcoming weeks and months!

To celebrate Valentine's Day or simply let a friend or loved one know how much you care, the Love & Friendship Collection by Trudy Sjolander is just the ticket. This pear-fectly delightful card was made with 11229MC Sentimental Fruit Clear Set, using IA-PA008 Fruit Salad and IA-012 SweetHearts Lime printed papers:

Tammy DeYoung has done it again...and by "it," I mean creating adorable characters, such as this cute little guy in 11215MC Fishing Tiger HoneyPOP Clear Set:

This set, as well as all of our HoneyPOP sets, work great for making regular cards. Of course, you can also stamp the pattern piece onto a Honeycomb Paper Pad. Here it's shown in HCP-GLD Goldenrod to make a surprisingly large three-dimensional fishy:
For critter friends in a completely different style, the tortoise and pup in 11223MC Pet Pairings Clear Set offers a striking, bold look:
Nancy Baier's Scissor Cut Scenes Collection emulates the unique design style of Scherenschnitte folk art, and these stamps allow you to make quick cards with a minimum of coloring. They also work great for experimenting with a host of ink techniques.

We have additional surprises to present, so please continue checking back as we unveil even more exciting new products! All of these collections in their entirety will also be available on the main Inky website starting this Wednesday, so I hope you'll come back for inspiration, ideas, shopping, and more.
