Friday Funnies: Waffle Iron Day

According to my secret sources, this Sunday will be Waffle Iron Day. Did you know that you can make a surprising number of foods using a waffle iron?

For instance, I've heard of cooking bacon in the waffle iron...but what about eggs:

Wouldn't those be tasty served with a waffled donut:

For lunch, you could try a W.I.H.D. (Waffle Iron Hot Dog):

And follow it up with waffly s'mores:

One of my favorite examples is macaroni and cheese a la waffle iron:

The above recipe was developed by an out-of-the-box thinker who has a waffle iron cookbook coming out later this summer.

Of course, you can read about what to make in waffle irons or their history. Or you can enjoy a few waffle-related jokes. (And not the unseemly kind, the scary existence of which I discovered during my research efforts.)

This cartoon brings new meaning to the phrase "L'Eggo my Eggo":

Did you know what kind of food can't make up its mind? Yep, you guessed it.

Did you hear a couple of years ago that the famous syrup company, Torani (who is known for their flavoring syrups, sauces, and blended drink bases that are often used at coffee houses), was planning to launch a "Chicken 'N Waffles" flavored syrup?

Apparently it turned out to be an April Fool's Day joke. Then, due to "unprecedented demand," they actually did release it several months later as a limited edition item. Alas, it's no longer available, although I'm not really sure that's a bad thing!

Last, but not least, here's a tangential joke:

Maybe it's time to dust off our waffle iron, which I haven't used in ages. Do YOU plan to make some waffles this weekend, Inky friends?

"Try It Different" Tuesday: Gift Card Set

Like many of you, our friend Becky O'Donnell has been a loyal Inky stamper for years. You may remember some of her projects featured on our blog, including her infamous recipe pages (which I adore, being the foodie that I am).

Last summer, I saw Becky at the Hamburg convention, and we talked about some ideas she had for a stamp set that could be used to decorate gift card enclosures. She ended up following her vision and designing 11232MC Gift Card Clear Set, which we asked if we could produce for her:

Why use those boring commercially produced gift card sleeves when you can make your own, much nicer one, as Debbie Fisher did here:

As you can see from the layout, there are tons of elements included in this set. Debbie used the dollar sign border on this charming zippered money pouch, which she sewed herself:

Even better, you're not limited to just money-themed projects. Debbie also created this sweet and simple thank you card that will show your appreciation for gifts or other thoughtful acts:

Speaking of thank you cards, did you see this week's card on the main Inky website? Debbie used 11236MC Kitty's Friends Clear Set (drawn by artist Tammy DeYoung) to create it:

Guess what? I happen to have one of those sets in my prize stash, and I think it's about time that we give it away, don't you agree? Leave a comment about 11236MC Kitty's Friends Clear Set, and you'll be entered in our BLOG CANDY drawing to win it.

On Sunday, June 29th, I'll randomly choose the winner and post the lucky person's name here on the blog, so please check back to see if you've won!

Friday Funnies: Silly Signs

Certain signs are humorous because they're a double entendre. Others might contain a typographical error that makes you laugh.

But some signs are just plain funny on purpose, and that's exactly the way they were intended to be. Here's an example:

Where fire heat, there will be s'mores:

What a clever marketing scheme for this bar:

Hmm, I might have to get one for Steve, who is a Harry Potter fan. After all, they're on sale:

Ain't this the truth:

One of my personal favorites:

And while not considered a sign, I had to include this bib:

Which one did you like best, Inky friends?

"Try It Different" Tuesday: Seahorse & Clam Mermaids

Did you "sea" this week's card on the main Inky website:

That charming little mermaid is part of 11247MC Seahorse & Clam Mermaids Clear Set (drawn by artist Tammy DeYoung):

Michelle Pearson created the above card, along with this fun variation:

Want to use the clamshell mermaid on a non-card project instead? How about a treat box, like this adorable one:

Debbie Fisher used double-sided printed cardstock, so that the inside is just as pretty as the outside:

She plans to find these cookies at the grocery store, put them in a cello bag, and place the bag inside the box:

Let's not forget about the seahorse mermaid image on that same clear set! Debbie's card is so bright and cheery, it's certain to make the recipient smile:

Michelle's version incorporates a framed layout with faux stitched edging:

You may notice this saying isn't from the same stamp set. Instead, it's included in 11251MC Ocean Pals Clear Set (also drawn by Tammy DeYoung).

These stamps are from our brand new Ocean Escapades collection, and they're featured on the June Inky Board Program:

The stamps shown above can be found at participating retailers this month. Which ones are YOUR favorite?

Please click here for a list of stores who received this collection. We encourage you to call ahead to verify they have these products in stock, and then please visit them to make your purchase.

Do you know a local stamp or scrapbook store that might be interested in our board program? Please ask them to email me for details. If they sign up for it and provide your name as a referral at that time, I'll send you a thank-you prize!

Friday Funnies: Corniest Dad Jokes Ever

Like most dads, every once in a while, my dad cracks a few silly jokes that are bad enough to make you groan.

But my father-in-law, Jerry, now he really takes it to the next level. And when you get him together with Steve, they are a real riot...or so they believe. ;-)

The jokes below remind me of our dads. Enjoy!

Okay, this is no secret--here's a wish for dads everywhere this Sunday:

"Try It Different" Tuesday: Better Together

Milk and cookies. Peanut butter and jelly. Burgers and fries. Some things are just better together, don't you think?

Oh, like stamps and paper. Or colored pencils and Gamsol. All of which Debbie Fisher used in her fun card for today's post:

I love how she used coordinating papers on both the outside and inside of this project:

These yummy stamps are from 11226MC Better Together Clear Set (drawn by artist Trudy Sjolander):

Debbie also used the PB&J image to make this week's card on the main Inky website.

Trudy played with the same stamps herself, creating an eye-catching card:

Does the striking red and purple color palette remind anyone else of strawberry and grape jam? You can find the SweetHearts Cherry printed papers here, along with other designs by Trudy:

Maybe you'd like to cut out the image, change up the saying, and alter your ribbon to get this fun variation:

Whichever cards you decide to make, we think stamps and YOU are the best combination of all!

Friday Funnies: Summer Vacation

Q: Why was the teacher cross-eyed?
A: She couldn't control her pupils!

Q: Where did the pencil go for summer vacation?
A: To Pennsylvania.

Q: Where do prehistoric reptiles like to go on vacation?
A: To the dino-shore!

Q: How do teddy bears keep their den cool in summer?
A: They use bear conditioning!

This evening I'm getting together with my friend Peg, who is a third-grade teacher. It's the last day of school, so we'll have to celebrate:

If you're a parent, do you like summer vacation? Or not so much? Perhaps you and the kids are planning to spend some time swimming:

Or possibly lounging in the sun:

Some people enjoy being outside, while others prefer staying indoors:

Reading is always a good way to fill one's time:

Doing crafts is also fun:

You already know which one is our favorite of them all:

10633J Creative Stamper

No matter which activities you plan to do, I hope they're lots of fun!
